About the Role
The Mechanical Engineer will work to build and refine CREW’s reactor systems for operation at multiple scales and under various operating conditions. Working with our teams in dry and wet lab space, they will be responsible for hands-on fabrication, testing, troubleshooting, and refining of our reactor systems. This will involve using machinery and equipment to build and operate reaction vessels, piping systems, pumps, filtration systems, and sampling systems. As such, this individual will be able to interface with manufacturers and vendors for timely deliveries, and QC incoming components.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Build and test multiphase reactor systems with support of internal and external engineering teams
Produce computer assisted design (CAD) schematics and drawings
Conduct hands-on experimentation with prototype systems, ground truth process simulation models, and oversee refinement of physical system components
Operate machinery as well as dry and wet lab equipment to build and operate system components
Test reaction vessels, piping systems, pumps, valves, filtration systems, and sampling systems
Assist with process development and create PFDs, P&IDs, and Material Balance Diagrams
Create and manage bill of materials and standard operating procedures
Assess construction materials for system components exposed to corrosive and hazardous liquids, solids, and for gasses that may be pressurized (1-10 bar)
Interface with external suppliers and manufacturers
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Environmental, or Process Engineering
2-4+ years of work experience in engineering or early-stage technologies
Skilled in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, Autodesk
Demonstrated experience in fabrication, using machinery, and hands-on troubleshooting
Experience working with electrical components such as sensor and monitoring systems and automation controls
Strong understanding of physics, chemistry, and engineering concepts, including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science
Entrepreneurial spirit and desire to be part of a high-performing team
Ideal candidate has a startup mindset where adaptability, creativity, agility, and execution are key
Strong desire to fight climate change
Bonus Qualifications
Familiarity with designing, building, and/or operating equipment in the water treatment, mining, energy, chemicals, pharmaceutical, or similar fields
Master's degree in Mechanical, Environmental, or Process Engineering
Experience working in a startup with a significant hardware component
