About the Role
The Chemical Engineer will work to model, build, and test CREW’s reactor systems at multiple scales and under various operating conditions. They will be responsible for building a process simulation and predictive reactive transport modeling frameworks to quantify interactions of liquids, solids, and gasses. This individual will help translate theory into mathematical models and get hands-on with system building, operation, and optimization.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Model and design multicomponent reactor systems, including solid-liquid, gas-liquid, and solid-gas reactions
Build and test prototype systems with support of internal and external engineering teams
Conduct hands-on experimentation with prototype systems, ground truth process simulation models, oversee optimization of operating conditions, and incorporate refined technology
Assist with process development and create PFDs, P&IDs, and Material Balance Diagrams
Assess construction materials for system components exposed to corrosive and hazardous liquids, solids, and for gasses that may be pressurized (1-10 bar)
Interface with external suppliers and manufacturers
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, or Process Engineering
2-4+ years of work experience in engineering or early-stage technologies
Skilled in process simulation and reactive transport software such as Aspen, CHEMCAD, COMSOL
Experience with data analysis or computer modeling tools such as in Python, Matlab, or Excel
Strong understanding of physics, chemistry, and engineering concepts, including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and chemical kinetics
Familiarity with sensor and monitoring systems and automation controls
Entrepreneurial spirit and desire to be part of a high-performing team
Ideal candidate has a startup mindset where adaptability, creativity, agility, and execution are key
Strong desire to fight climate change
Bonus Qualifications
Familiarity with designing, building, and/or operating equipment in the water treatment, mining, energy, chemicals, pharmaceutical, or similar fields
Master's or PhD degree in Process, Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering
Experience working in a startup with a significant hardware component
Experience in infrastructure projects, including experience with permitting
While we are looking for someone with these skills, you do not need to have all the listed qualifications to be a great addition to our team. Please reach out if you have many of the listed qualifications, are eager to learn new skills and be involved in the climate tech space, and have solid design, engineering, and problem-solving skills.
Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is competitive and will depend on many factors including experience, education, and expertise. We offer a competitive benefits package with insurance, vacation, retirement, and equity options.
About the Company
CREW is a distributed and flexible carbon dioxide removal technology that utilizes containerized enhanced weathering in engineered systems for permanent, low-cost, and verifiable storage. By accelerating the well-established, natural weathering process that removes CO2, CREW leverages these reactions in a variety of settings on our path to gigatons of carbon sequestration.
